Sharing Joyful Retrievers,

Eirlys Goldadors/Onyx Retrievers
Our beloved canine companion family includes purpose-bred Labrador/golden retriever crosses, affectionately known as Goldadors. Selectively bred Labrador/golden crosses have been a hallmark of providing steadfast service for nearly a hundred years. Their attributes are greatly admired in the guide and service field. Their noteworthy gentle nature and learning aptitude set the stage for success in multiple assistance dog roles 🐕🦺 such as medical alert, mobility assistance, and guide work. We are fortunate to include dogs from distinct service dog lineage in our small, home-based program.
I have enjoyed handling the Labrador/golden retriever cross since the late eighties. Many of my favorite trainees were these beautiful and sensitive crosses. I appreciate the soft appearance of a full coat so the Goldadors I generally work with carry a majority of golden lineage. I also greatly enjoy the sensitive, intuitive nature of the golden. Some people are attracted to them; some are not. Some people support purpose-bred cross breeding; some do not. The Goldadors in our breeding program carry the same rigorous medical testing as the purebred goldens and no cross bred is represented as a pure bred.
Color and Name Definition
We work with Goldadors with both black and gold coloring. Within the retrievers, black is generally a dominant color, while yellow (or gold) is recessive. In addition, if each parent carries for black and tan points, we can have puppies with tan or brindle splashes like the pup pictured above.
For distinction, I often refer to the gold colored dogs as Goldadors and the black beauties as Onyx Retrievers.
