About Us at Eirlys Golden Retrievers
Bob and I have five adult children, Lydia, Audrey, Dan, Andrew and Liz. Our family enjoys a lovely combination of outdoor adventures and simple homebody pleasures. As homebodies, you will find us playing cards, reading by the fire, and playing music. We transitioned from beautiful Sonoma County to wild and wonderful Truckee in 2018. The Sierra Nevada mountain range is dog heaven. We enjoy recreating with the dogs in both summer and winter and selected the name Eirlys to honor our Welsh heritage, the UK heritage of the golden breed and the dogs' love of snowdrops. Together, our favorite pastimes are hiking, swimming in the lake, snow shoeing, kayaking, and of course, chasing pine cones.
My background is rich in animal behavior, genetics and husbandry. For 25 years I enjoyed a dream-come-true career in the guide and service dog industry, where I focused on training, temperament assessment, puppy development and reproduction. I retired from the Breeding Manager position at Guide Dogs for the Blind in 2011 and I now have the good fortune to focus 100% of my time to family, dogs, and volunteer activities. I remain active in the assistance dog field in my role as breeding administrator for the Assistance Dogs International Breeding Cooperative.
During my international travels on behalf of Canine Companions for Independence and Guide Dogs for the Blind, I had the good fortune of meeting hundreds of dogs and their handlers. Time and time again, I was in awe of the classic beauty and temperament of the golden guides working in the UK, and the soft, gentle nature and appearance of those in the Australian and New Zealand guide programs. I set to work to fulfil a dream of bringing this lovely type of golden retriever into our home. I am very grateful to my dear friend Lauren Elgie, who, knowing just what I was looking for, introduced me to our foundation breeding stock.
My awe and fondness for the beautiful golden breed continues and I am committed to upholding sound type and delightful temperament in my work raising this beloved breed. Eirlys Golden Retrievers looks forward to providing quality puppies to guide and service dog schools worldwide and bringing kind, fun-loving family companions into adoring homes like yours.
Raising dogs is a family venture. I am grateful to my children, my spouse and in-laws, Papa and Dodie, and my mother, Fran, for their hard work and support. I greatly appreciate the commraderie and mentorship that I have received from fellow dog fanciers. I am honored to be in your company.
